LAST COMMUNICATION FROM THE INFORMATION TEAM

We are here today to say goodbye. We finished our mission, but we want to share some images of our final party last night and today as there are so many reasons to celebrate and to give thanks.

In an atmosphere of joy and relaxation after finishing the task, we prepared our feast of different "inter": intercultural, inter-provincial, inter-generational, international ...with great creativity, some with much fantasy, color and music, we had so much fun. Songs and rhythms in different languages: Basque, English, Italian, Argentinian ... and varied dances: from the paso doble to the meringue through the classic ballet "The Swan Lake" ... jokes of different colors ... closing with the parade of "Snow White and the Dwarfs " played by the community of the curia, who not only have taken good care of us throughout the entire month, but we also enjoyed immensely in their presentation. Amidst laughter and fun and this helped us unwind and relax nicely.

DSC01691

This morning at 12.30 Ina Echarte SJ, who had been a brother to all of us came to preside at the Thanksgiving Mass. His homily and his commentary was timely and profound based on the texts in today's liturgy.A deep gratitude to God, and to Mary in her Visit to Elizabeth, Candida Maria de Jesus , as we celebrate her birth anniversary, and the presence of the Holy Spirit who has been with us all this time. We also sang songs in different languages.
We also prayed especially for all the Daughters of Jesus who celebrate their Golden Anniversary and all the people from different places who in one way or another had been with us throughout the the CGXVII.

We share a part of the homily of Ina Echarte, SJ

“The Feast of the Visitation, for you, is also a celebration in the family as it is the birth anniversary of Mother Candida in Berrospe. I join you spiritually, and particularly at this time as you end the GC-, which is an act and gesture of obedience, and you are also worthy of Elizabeth's blessing, "blessed are you because you believed."
Listen-Recognize-Share are three terms that indicate a path, a process, a search of our commitment, that you have wished to live in community and want to share with all the sisters of the Congregation with all partners in mission, with all recipients of it. Thus

Seeking for the welfare of the neighbors.
Being called as we are today
To evangelize in a particular style of Jesus
...in compassion and poverty
...n union with others
and it cannot be kept in a house,
in a province or country, but you are called:
Go into all the world ...
... With special attention to youth...

(See his whole homily...)

After lunch some songs and dances followed in an atmosphere of “fiesta”. Rosa offered a toast in a song to the great delight of everyone.

DSC01248

Each province then had several meetings to arrange the programming of the transmission to all the communities, of "what we have seen and heard" ...

And now, we end our communication and it has been a great pleasure to be with all of you. We thank you for the constant encouragement and messages which we are still receiving up to now. We are sorry for any mistake we have made and we thank you for your patience. These all help us to grow in communion with the family scattered around the world. We feel that St. Candida Maria de Jesus still is inviting us to go further ... in love and in spirit we go back to our reality, knowing that it is the Lord the calls and sends us . Thank you and farewell!

XVII GENERAL CONGREGATION
Communication no. 21- The FINALE

                              DSC01616

Mother General ,Maria Inez Furtado, reads her closing Message that marks the end of the CGXVII.

Today, May 30, is last day of our C. G. XVII. The whole morning was dedicated to making a contemplative memory led by the Liturgical team of the day. Two hours of personal prayer from three beautiful texts with questions helped us in our prayer.

Deuteronomy 8, 2 "Remember the way that the Lord your God has led you here" ...
2 Corinthians 6, 1-2 "I urge you not to turn a deaf ear , a time of grace ...
a propitious time, now is the time of salvation...
Luke 1: 39-56 "Mary arose and set off ..."

We felt the God has been present throughout the journey and now, we thank Him for all the gifts we received and to celebrate together how God had been working in every Daughter of Jesus, the lay men and women, from the moment that we were called to the CG XVII .
Each of us was sent by our sisters to continue this journey in search of God's will that we completed today. We are confident that God has worked and is still working in his creatures. It's not about thinking but of sensitivity to perceive... and we are called to listen "from below, from within and close" ...
We need to return to each of the phases of the process that we have lived, to listen and make us aware of how the Spirit worked in me, for me and for us in this time of General Congregation.
What has been my experience?
What has changed or is changing in me?
To help us, we  returned to the text of the Visitation, to behold with a new look, the meeting of Mary with Elizabeth, from which sprout the need for us to evangelize and emerge stronger from these. Here we are asked to visualize our encounter with our sisters when we go back to our communities.
What disposition do I have as I go back?
What is inside me that I need to communicate?
What word has been woven in me, in us, which we want to convey?

After the group sharing for the last time , we had a final prayer in the chapel for an hour, putting before the Lord our experiences, especially of gratitude for all members and for those who have been with us, the communities, all sisters, all lay people who are part of this growing family.

DSC01570
The decoration in the chapel was very motivating: we weave our story: a ball of thread with the colors red and blue, divinity and humanity, was on the basket with yarn and needles that have accompanied us as we were talking ... other chapters can be seen through the two large clay pots , one standing and one lying on the ground ... the catalog with photos of all ... all helped us to pray in this last step of the process.

Clara moderated the afternoon and we had a bit of family dialogue about how we can make the transmission in different places and times. Surely before we separate the sisters in each province will meet to agree on how the transmission will be undertaken.

Communication no. 20

On Saturday night there was another group that had a stroll of the Roman night. The next day, Sunday, Some of the "Congregadas" attended the Angelus at the Vatican Square. We share with you  these thoughts from Pope Francis.

DSC01460

DSC01461

Today is Trinity Sunday. The light of Easter renews in us every year the joy and stupor of the faith: let us understand that God is not something vague, our God is not something vaporous, he is concrete, he is not an abstraction, but has a name: “God is love.” It is not a sentimental or emotive love, but the love of the Father that is the origin of every life, the love of the Son who dies on the cross and rises, the love of the Spirit, who renews man and the world. Understanding that God is love does us a lot of good, because it teaches us to love, to give ourselves to others as Jesus gave himself to us, to walk with us. Jesus walks with us along the road of life.

There was also the opportunity for another group to visit the Jesuits  General Curia of the Mosaic made by Marko Rupnik SJ, after  Ina Echarte SJ  celebrated the Eucharist for the group that morning.

DSC01537
On Wednesday we met again at 9:30 AM  in the chapter hall. It was moderated by Clara while the Liturgy Team of the invited us to  sing "Our Lady of the Way" .  After this Maria Inez proposed that the closing of the CGXVII will be May 30, which every one voted unanimously .

Then Rachel presented the  Final draft of the text of the Determination for personal study. We gave a big hand of thanks to the three sisters who have worked while others had more free time: Auxilio, Edna and Raquel. We have some personal time to reflect on the text and when we met again in the Assembly for a period of dialogue on Document, there were two rounds of interventions  as we expressed the satisfaction we  felt with the process we went through. After a few minutes of silence, we proceeded to the vote. The result was a unanimous Yes which made the hall erupted with the loud applause of the whole assembly. We offer here the Determination which has 3 sheets:

Seeking more the Welfare o f the Neighbors
1.  Called from what we are today ...
2.  To evangelize like Jesus ...
     a) In compassion and poverty
     b) In union with others
3.  Go into all the world ...

With special attention to youth ...

This is what  we present to all the Daughters of Jesus and the Lay Collaborators, all members of this great family of Candida Maria de Jesus. With hope and great desire we will transmit the content of the Determination  as soon as time permits.

 DSC01535

The afternoon was devoted to the evaluation of this III Part of our general schema.  We first reflected on a personal level and then shared some resonances in assembly : the remote preparation of almost a year helped us; the atmosphere of interior freedom, fraternity, simplicity and joy we have experienced, co-responsibility in our work, etc.. We cannot forget the help and thoughtful and generous service of the Sisters of the Curia, seeing at all times that nothing is missing for the work we were doing. From here we thank you from the heart.
We ended the day with a prayer based on a video that contains moments of our experience and the song "Let's walk." We want the road to remain open so that we can discover new paths which we will cross together with all the others in our family. Finally, before leaving the room, Enaceyla, in charge of liturgy group of the next day  introduced us to the next morning’s day of recollection which is making a contemplative memory of what we all went through during this CGXVII.

At 9.30 we are in the chapter room and started singing "I put in your hands..." Today Mercedes moderates and gives us the guidelines for the work of this day.

DSC01375

Then Maria Inez oriented us of the program anticipating the coming days when we will soon closing the Congregation. But there is one thing that is defined: we will celebrate May 31, our congregational feast, which will be the Thanksgiving for GC XVII. On this day, we feel particularly connected to all Daughters of Jesus and lay partners, we celebrate the Visitation of Mary, and as we all know the birth of St. Candida Maria de Jesus. We will also remember in a special way the sisters who will make their Golden Jubilee on that date.
Maria Inez announced the final activities as determined in the Regulations of the General Congregation: we will vote the day of completion, evaluate the experience, delegate powers and recommendations to the Superior General, sign the minutes, etc.. We will also devote ample time to return to our experiences, to reread what the Spirit has done in each of us through the CGXVII.
We ask
a little patience to stay following us and continue to pray ...

We want to share with you part of his homily, but in Spanish...

In the afternoon, we were able to finish our task and had a beautiful prayer which was prepared by the group in charge of prayers. Below is the first part of the prayer... I think many of us will discover the meaning of this prayer, and understand it, though it is in Spanish.

FELICES NOSOTRAS

After the prayer, some went out to see Rome by Night. The "Congregadas" were given a two-day rest while the Commission on Redaction prepare the final text of the Proposed Text. You might be interested to see important data about the Congregation...

Till next time,

We also remembered yesterday as the day dedicated to the project of the “ WE” group in their advocacy of fighting for a different world, giving back the desire of so many men and women in a way we can reverse many things so that we can make a just world.

As a sign of solidarity, many showed up with their clothes inside out during the Eucharist and... in our prayer at the end of the afternoon we also made significant gestures on this and read some excerpts from the final Manifesto of Forum Social Ethics and Morals held in Alicante.

We work in our usual dynamics and Graciela moderated today. We are entering the final stretch of the document which we have been working on. This time we are in the Treatment of Matters and are in the last part of this phase. We continue to dialogue, discern, prioritize and decide content and from there, we hope to reach the Guidelines/Determination which may lead us to where the Father wants us to go in these coming six years.

This Saturday at 12:30PM, we will have mass with Fr. General Adolfo Nicolas at our Chapel.

Today Thursday, we resumed the task and regular hours. We started the session moderated by Clara, who reminded us that the great God was with us yesterday because we  were prepared for rain  yet the sun came upon us but we didn’t bring our caps.

All morning we had personal reflection and group meeting. In the afternoon we started with assembly and the dialogue was about youth: a field which we all are called to pay special attention to. We talk about the places where young people are today, their language, the challenges we face in ministry ... and a lot of other questions that moved  and encouraged us.
We finished with the prayer, gathering and considering these challenges. Silvia presented the network of NGO "WE" which has dedicated that on May 24, we work on the campaign "turning the world upside down" and to whichwe can associate ourselves by making the gesture of putting on our garment in reverse...this is today...(Photos tomorrow)

The word of the Holy Father remained in our very heart and were flected on them. We share the questions and perhaps you would like to reflect on them too. (SEE the FULL TEXT somewhere in this page.)
•How did his words ?
•As we are sent to this world, what is the message we want to bring?
•How do I let myself be guided by the Holy Spirit so that my testimony of faith is of unity and communion?
•Do I bring about unity around me?...

We bring you other pictures from yesterday’s event. While the  Pope greeted bishops and cardinals,  our sister Pepita stood on a chair, not a fig tree ... and saw in her line of vision Msgr. Ginés, Bishop of Guadix, who came to our place. He said he had also recognized Maria Inez and exchanged a brief greeting. We were able to get those pictures ... and some that also included today.

Some photos while waiting to enter...

While waiting in line, we started to have some interviews with the Sisters to find out how they are feeling at this moment.
•     Hopeful to see the Pope as close as possible, and I feel happy at this moment. (Lee)
•    A gift from the Lord that I  never thought I’d have we cannot explain his ways, it exceed one hundred per cent, I am very grateful for all this and congregational experience that have been given to me (María José)
•    With much joy in my heart (Thelma)
•    Happy, content, with much hope. (Cecilia)
•    I come content because my two communities are with me who gave me strength to be here; they ahve given me Greetings and a hug for the Pope. (Pepita)
•    With so much hope (Felisa)
•    Excited, hopeful  (Teresa Li)
•    Excited,   alegría, happy, enthusiastic and feeling with the Church (Graciela)
•    Happy in the hope of feeling with the Church, good “kimochi” (Yoli)
•    I don’t have much words. I am overwhelmed … (Joy)

With little patience and we were able to get to the place assigned to us which was very good viewing side: on the left side facing the Basilica and in front of us was the central place where the Pope sits. Although it has been predicted that it would rain today, God instead sent a beautiful sunny day for us to enjoy its warmth though Rome still is in cool springtime at 17 degrees.

When we got to our place, we started to take pictures and admire the spectacle of the plaza which was breathtaking. Two bands were  alternately playing Neapolitan songs and other rhythms, while we saw African group with their colorful costumes. The St. Peter’s Plaza was like having a party. We remembered the canonization of our Founder as we used the same foulard.

For nearly half an hour, the Master of ceremony read the different groups that came to have the audience with the Pope. One sister had the idea to count all of them: the result was 149 parishes and 239 associations of different places and modalities.

We were named quite at the beginning of the list and upon hearing our group, we applauded with all our enthusiasm. Afterwards, the Pope in his “Popemobile” made his way through the square and finally at 10.30 o'clock, he sat down to begin a catechesis. (See the photos how close we were to him).

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL TEXT OF POPE FRANCISCO'S CATECHESIS

He began his catechesis. It was a providential gift for us and a confirmation of the issues we talked about yesterday: evangelization... go to the world; the need for a close contact with Jesus. He spoke in Italian and then made a small synthesis in these languages: Italian, French, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Polish.

DSC01349

When he finished, the Pope began to greet the people who were in the front row and stopped fairly with each person, then went our side, then to the center where a group of newly married couples had come to receive his greeting and blessing.

DSC01363

Then came a man from the protocol group and took Maria Inez across the square because towards the end, she would personally greet the Pope.

DSC01364

Maria Inez waits for her turn...

Maria Inez told us that when the name of the Congregation was mentioned immediately, the Holy Father remembered that in Argentina, he knows us and especially our sister Teresa Sagastume, he asked for her and remembered well. He asked Maria Inez to pray for him and she said we always do.

You had been very much present throughout the celebration and when were blessed by Pope Francisco, the whole family of Candida Maria-Daughters of Jesús/Laicos- were there. The Pope always remembers children, the sick or suffering, so that detail was also in our hearts.
Tomorrow we will continue our work.

We started another week of serious work, but we have also rested very well this weekend with the variety of activities that characterizes us. We wanted to help maintain the rhythm as well as the equilibrium of life. We had a beautiful Eucharist celebrated by Ignacio Echarte, SJ, who was very generous since the Jesuit priest who was supposed to come was not available. We thank from the heart Ina for his generous and thoughtful response.

We celebrated the Vigil of Pentecost and our diversity was palpable when Ina invited us to pray the Lord's Prayer each in our language and that expression confirmed what we just said of our diversity.

After dinner some went out to see Rome by night. A small group did a nice tour also because the temperature was very good, a clear sky with moon that accompanied us and allowed us to enjoy: Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Pantheon, Basilica San Pietro ... was fully illuminated because there was a Vigil of many groups, new communities, associations and lay organizations. A cone of "gelato" completed the tour before returning home.

At 15:30 PM, another group gathered at the Curia of the Jesuits and Ina Echarte, again guided us to see the chapels where the mosaic work of Marko Rupnik SJ was exhibited. The tour also offered us a beautiful view of Rome from the top terraces of the Curia.

Above is the photo report of the various groups, to know and remember the Roman sites, and it is always nice to return to them.

And now we return to the normal work-the moderator was Clara-and we went on with our process of discernment. It has been a very rich experience of interchange, with great freedom and responsibility, our personal contributions which are the fruits of personal prayer, and a great time for listening to all. No doubt that the Spirit leads us and wants to be docile to his inspirations, and above all we are convinced that we don not walk alone or with our own contributions, but many people are with us. We read in the messages that arrive continuously by various means, and above all, we feel it in the heart. It is a great joy to experience this way the sense of body that unites us!. This family of Candida Maria de Jesus is great! Thank You.

We continue the journey tomorrow.

A day after the tour, the group continued to talk about the great experience and the following are the comments, wishes for the day, echoes of some of the Sisters. Although the day didn’t start with a good weather, it turned out well later. Both at start of session moderated by Clara it started saying "the Lord has been good to us" ... it was, and with that feeling of joyful gratitude we began the work.
The desires we expressed on the bus when we went to Ninfa were fulfilled throughout the day. The wishes are grouped as follows:

About the weather
That there be little rain (Maria Inez)
That it does not rain at all (Lola)
That there be sunrise (Iris)

Grammatical: infinitive
Enjoy (Maria Luisa)
Share (Rosa)
Contemplate (Yajaira)
Resting (Silvia)
Disconnect (Raquel)

From the nostalgia
I think what you said earlier sister (Mercedes)
That we remember all communities (Maria Jose)

From spirituality
Internal Rest (Enaceyla)

Varied...
May it be a GOOD day (Joaquina)
May it a very good way to enjoy life (Pepita)
A good time to share with the sisters. Community (Mary Carmen)
Enjoy the exchange of languages (Patricia and Lee)
Living with the sisters in different environment (Sofia)
A day to relax (Emelinda)

But as the wishes came true, this morning we felt with renewed with enthusiasm although we were tired due to long walks through the gardens, and up and down through medieval sites and is felt through our bodies.

Today Taiwan Province of China surprised us with a precious gift to those countries typical. The room suddenly took on a red hue heralded intensely passionate work ... Thank you, sisters.

Clara invited us to open our senses in order to discover from the depths of and with the help of the Spirit, to let us continue in the way of radical following of Jesus, and not to lose sight of that question that accompanies us, "Father, what do you want to communicate?".

It was a real day of study, reflection, sharing which illuminated and enriched each of us. We ended with a prayer through a video that presented the reality of migrants ...

Till the next

Today , Wednesday, is a day out for the CG XVII Congregadas . We left promptly at 7.45 pm. on a bus to go to the following places: Ninfa Gardens, Abbey of Valvisciolo, Sermoneta and Caetani Castle. We arrived at 9:00 AM to this beautiful garden called Ninfa. A pretty tour guide named ESDEYNI explained to us the history of this place.

DSC00787 - Copy

It is an English-style garden, in 747 AD, and is one of the ten most beautiful gardens in the world. It is located in the province of Latina, in the center of Rome which is about 40 kms. over an area of 105 acres, next to the slopes of the mountains Lepini. Ninfa is the name of an ancient village dating back to the Romans.

We celebrated the Eucharist at 12:00 in Italian, officiated by one of the Cistercian monks of that community. Our sister Lee made available her musical gifts and accompanied the group with the Pipe Organ in that Churcb. This abbey is a beautiful example of the Cistercian abbey at the foot of the mountains Lepini, located between the medieval towns of Sermoneta and Norma. It is Gothic but has also Romanesque style. Inside the church are the frescoes in the chapel of San Lorenzo, but the most beautiful is the impressive cloister with its beautiful garden.

logo

We present a new model of the logo. We are now entering another stage of our journey.  According to the plan we were given at the beginning, the process of discernment is designed in the following phases which we share here.

I The State of the Congregation, of which we have spoken               and coordinated by CEC, Commission for the State of the Congregati

II Election of people and issues

III Treatment of Affairs

The phrase that frames all in this is: "Lord, what do you want from us?"

At 9.30 AM. we are in the hall and the liturgical team animated us with the song "Stand up, stay tuned" ... something that fits very well with the context .

Today, Clara Echarte moderates the opening the session and reminded us of the importance of continuing the discernment environment because we have to choose, not people but it matters. Five new groups have been formed, but was different from the first phase.

Maria Inez also insisted that we continually maintain our Ignatian indifference to discern content, not the form or the wording; what things should be determined so that the body moves forward, and not be paralyzed, in the way of radical following of Jesus, to remain to be good so that we grow in our spiritual heritage. She continued to inspire the assembly so that we will not lose our way.

libro

We were presented with the new materials which the assembly will reflect and later share in the new group. This material will become the new matter to work on for the Determination of the CGXVII. This is now a very important aspect of the celebration. Dayse Agretti explained how the CPO came about with this material and expressed that this material is open, and not yet final so that the groups can work on it and do whatever is necessary until it becomes the final text.

Fr. Mark Rupnik, SJ

At 19:00 PM, we celebrated the Eucharist with Fr. Mark Rupnik SJ, an artist known for his mosaics and icons. He said the Mass in Italian. He helped us to deepen on the meaning of the feast of the Ascension.

At dinner, he shared animatedly about his life and the meaning of his work “Mary of the Visitation” which the Congregation used as the title of Mary, who accompanies us in our journey. He also shared about his community at Aletti Center where he taught priests and seminarians about art work . It was truly a very interesting and informative evening.

We thank once again for your the communication we continuously received from so many people, and the connections that enable us to reach all countries: Sonia sends Zeze Brazil and is responsible for putting on the web after translate it is into Portuguese language. So does Lee to the Indian-Pacific webpage for English-speaking area. Please feel free to visit the International page though it is in Spanish.

We carry on bringing you the chronicles of the days here in CXVII as we return to the regular rhythm of our communications. The second week was already devoted to the election of persons which but included times of prayer and discernment following our way of proceeding. We are extremely pleased with the pace we lived in those two weeks.

At lunch

You can imagine that it was not just reading the issues that had come but deep inside us, we need to deepen more and more in their content, draw conclusions for the future ...

Now we continue to expand the contents of our "family conversation"
- Responsibility and exercise of government in our apostolic body
- Local level structures - communities and works
- The hope of a new idea and articulation for the local community
- Our desires in formal and non-formal education
- The identity and accompaniment of our own apostolic works / or those we administer
- The sustainability and solidarity as a challenge for our economy at all levels
- Universalism with internationality in initial formation
- The challenge of religious life for the elderly
- The grace of lay-religious integration in all apostolic centers
- Our experience of Daughters of Jesus in inter-congregational communities
- The responsibility to ensure congregational patrimony, etc ...

All these issues and the others, were a good platform to know the state of the whole congregation;

An atmosphere of great joy, family party, confirmation of way which the Lord had led us ... songs, toasts, jokes ...continued. Lunch was a very happy occasion as the sisters in the community prepared a feast after the election of the new General Consultors which we finished much ahead of time.

In the afternoon, our next agenda was the election of Sisters who will compose the Commission for the Treatment of Matters and after that the commission for the Redaction.

For the CTA , the following have been elected:

Mary Carmen Martin - Spain-Italy
Dayse Agretti - Brazil-Caribbean
Georgita Hormillosa - Indian-Pacific
Clara Echarte - General Government

For the Commission on Redaction

Auxilio Vicente - General Curia
Raquel Amigot - Spain-Italy
Edna Zangale - Brazil-Caribbean

In the afternoon we met in the chapel to give thanks for the day to God for all that has happened. Five candles were lit by Maria Inez to symbolize the new government . We also thanked them for the generous availability in accepting this new mission. All the Daughters of Jesus were present throughout the day and especially at this time of shared prayer.
Maria Inez Angeles warmly thanked for the unconditional support and service of Angeles Sebastian and Auxilio Vicente in these past six years .

Messages of support and affection keep coming ,( which can be read in the web) from many people in our family Lay-Daughters of Jesus from around the world. It is a great joy and encouragement and we appreciate it.

Till next time.

Special News – ELECTION OF MOTHER GENERAL

DSC00353

This sunny morning in Roman spring, after celebrating the Holy Eucharist, at 10:40 AM, the congregation resonated with a long and warm applause when Auxilio Vicente who presided this session, asked MARIA INEZ FURTADO DE MENDONCA to be Superior General for the next six years to which she answered “yes”. The scrutineers, Melba Neris and Patricia Coimbra did their part very well. Then we all greeted Maria Inez one by one with a hug and words of gratitude and support for her.

In a spirit of celebration and thanksgiving, all went to the Chapel and joyfully sang the Magnificat. Mother General for her part said briefly her deep gratitude to all. She especially mentioned a brief thanksgiving for her mother. Here are some pictures and we will give more details and pictures during the next communication. Thanks for all the prayers and greetings we received these days.

Communication no. 6

We would like to thank you for all the messages we get from around the world which help and encourage us to go on ...

IMG 0458As we said on Saturday, Sunday is a day of rest and so we faithfully fulfilled the mandate with great JOY which we did with a variety of ways. Here too is the diversity: some went for a walk braving the rain that accompanied us in the early hours of the morning, but then later came a splendid sun ... others stayed to enjoy a prolonged sleep while others came with snack all day but came back before the rain fell.

On Monday, we began with a renewed energy. Fr. Paul Bernardo Ordoñe,  Mercedarios' Superior general from Argentina came to celebrate the Eucharist. Today is precisely the feast of St. Peter Nolasco, its founder, so we prayed for many people who are in captivity in our world today.

We also celebrated the birthday of our sister Felisa Molina, from the Philippines.

DSC03327

We could not fail to mention Thelma Barbarona’s mother, also of that country, who died yesterday. She was 92 years old and very sick. No doubt, the pain of separation for Thelma and her family cannot be denied. In this situation,Thelma, though was very serene and is sustained by the Lord and the love of all of us.

At 9.30, we went back to the conference room to go on our work . We kept on our reflections and sharing particularly after receiving the Work on the State of the Congregation which offered the synthesis of all the documents treated from all the contributions of days.DSC03398

DSC03348
The team for the liturgy animated us and for sure many know what it is from the FASFI calendar which inspired us to "link" Jesus to the world as we experienced it during our Spiritual Exercises with the guidance of Benjamin G. Buelta SJ, with particular sensitivity to deepen the vision of events and people.

Sonia Maria, Teresa Li, Sofia Chang and Teresa Hsu in deep study...

For today, after all the exchanges, Maria Inez had formulated some questions that helped us a lot to pray and to reflect.

How do I see the Congregation today?
Has it changed my vision these days?
What element especially touched my heart?

Our vision had changed because each came with our immediate reality and helped us to be closer after listening directly to several sisters’ sharing of reflection. We had expanded our perception of the universal Body with a life in continuous movement, with its lights and shadows, but with much hope and joy for the challenge to keep walking from our decline and the diminution of our strength, and precisely, we realized that this is very evangelical. During our final prayer for the day, we briefly expressed our feelings in brief words: happiness - freedom - trust - hope - the Father leads us - opening ...

During our free time, we take the opportunity to keep on taking pictures so you all can get to know who are here gathered together.

Before concluding the day Maria Inez presented that for the next few days, we enter the stage of elections, for which the prevailing dispositions are prayer and discernment, both personal and in group, encouraging us to maintain an atmosphere of silence, and to have an adoration before the Bl. Sacrament. On THURSDAY at 9:00 AM, we will have the election of our Superior General.

We want to live all these days together in prayer and so the Team of information will not send any communication until Thursday. We encourage all our Sisters to accompany us with your prayers.

As we said yesterday, we go on with the work of getting to know the state of the Congregation, which is giving us a lot of data from our own religious family.

DSC03287

In the afternoon we had ample time to continue reading data and thinking: what do I see? What do I find? How is the life of the congregation? Where are its lights and shadows? ...A lot of questions that come from our own experiences looking more realistically at the data of who we are and how we are. We look at the present but also look at the future with hope.

DSC03290

Life is exciting as we view our religious family from different continents, colors, cultures, languages ... continue weaving the story from the present , towards the future, and we know that in this journey , we are accompanied by our sisters from all communities and many people who are part of the family of St. Candida Maria de Jesus. We receive many messages and we appreciate and vibrate in unison in this adventure we share.

The liturgical team animated us in the Eucharist. At the end of the evening session, we spent a time of prayer in the chapel, bringing to the Lord realities of poverty in our world , illuminated by the Word: "I have come that they may have life and life in abundance -I am the Good Shepherd who gives his life for his sheep "...

We go deeper and deeper into our rhythm of work that is intense. At 7.30 we celebrated  the Eucharist presided by Fr Emilio, a Mercidarian and General counsel, a native of Burgos.
Incidentally it is the birthday of our sister, Iris, from the Dominican Republic . We celebrated her birthday in the Mass, and after the meal with sweets and with songs.

These days are dedicated to internalize on the state of the congregation, so we have ample time for personal reading of the documents coming from the provincial congregations. A committee was formed by Maria Inez, with the general councilors, plus three sisters, one of every continent who are Graciela Francovig, Mercedes Vilas and Pilar Martinez. Their task is to help the general government in the daily tasks by giving the guidelines for daily.

Assembly sessions are chaired by Maria Inez who has either our sister Ro as secretary and moderator on duty.

Throughout the morning we had personal work, and the afternoon was dedicated to continuing the "family talks" on various issues that concern us. We received good news with joy and want to share it: Sofia Langoni, the first vocation from Uruguay, has been admitted to the novitiate.

Liturgy teams have also been formed to animate us not only during the Eucharist but also at the various moments of work and evening prayer. We present one formed by sisters: Raquel Amigot of Spain-Italy; Lynn Falsis, Philippines and Tita Hernandez, Bolivia.

Finally, we announce that we have started to receive messages within the web, which encourages us a lot and we want to respond to them. It would be nice if more people, not only sisters, working in our centers, family and friends could also communicate that allows us to feel more palpably the union of hearts.

GENERAL CONGREGATION  XVII

Communication No. 2

In today's news we want to present an icon that is resonating in us and has aided us in this journey. We talked about Mary of the Visitation which is Mary of Evangelization.

Belgrado 013 - Copy

It is an image made by P. Marco Rupnik SJ, who with his great sensitivity has offered us a great help and we want to share with as many people who will visit our website.
Mary has been "visited" by the angel with an announcement from God, by the action of the Spirit out of herself , hurriedly went "to visit" her cousin Elizabeth.
The symbol displays a variety of significant aspects that "portray" Mary:

  • The mother of my Lord, as proclaimed by Isabel
  •  The believer, Elizabeth proclaims "Happy is she who believed"
  •  The bearer of joy, a joy that caused the messenger of God and that comes from Jesus and therefore comes out spontaneously and communicated it to Elizabeth, to John and then she sings in her Magnificat
  • The evangelizer, with her presence, her gestures, her words and, above all, because it leads to Jesus.
  • The woman who is free and serviceable, who stood up, she decides to set out, forgets herself, to accompany another woman who is in need of help. This service is not empty, it springs from the what she has been “weaving” in her womb.

In the hands of Mary, we celebrate today the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, Labor day. Our Eucharist was presided by Ignacio Echarte SJ, who reminded us of our collaborative work of creation with our work. We also had in mind the reality of lack of work that affects so many families and youth.
We continue our pace of tasks as scheduled today for the first time and there are five reflection groups and in each, are sisters from different countries and areas of mission. We had ample time for personal reading of documents and in the afternoon we had a time for "family talks" on issues of life.

 Communication No. 1

DSC03182  We can imagine the news that stirs up the desire in our sisters and people with whom we share the mission in different parts of the world, but the preliminary acts of a General Congregation have their pace and just this morning we had election of persons for the various offices .

On Sunday we rested after an enriching experience of the Spiritual Exercises which had   prepared us well for this event. We enjoyed a beautiful spring day in Rome as walked, or stayed at home, free from tasks. We also welcomed two sisters who came to help the secretary, Maria Angeles Perez and Ines Cruz.

The CG XVII officially started on April 29, 2013 with Mass of the Holy Spirit officiated by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Gonzales Buelta, SJ,( same priest who gave the electors their 8-day retreat which ended last Saturday). It was a beautiful and meaningful mass, with songs sung in different languages, as well as the petitions said in Spanish, Tagalog, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. Dayse Agretti gave the introduction as she explained the elements that decorated the altar: earth, various flowers, a fabric for weaving ... all the riches of diversity that added colors: languages, cultures, and formed together this page of the history of the Congregation.

Then we went to the Conference room and after the roll call of all the participants, Maria Inez declared open the CG XVII. She reminded us that:

“hemos sido enviadas en nombre de la Trinidad; y la mediación ha sido el envío de nuestras hermanas, porque no podemos olvidar que estamos todas en congregación general; queremos vivir esta experiencia teniendo presentes a Dios y a la realidad unidas para los frutos del amor del Padre que todos esperamos, siendo fieles a nuestra hora sin añorar otras …nos acompaña María de la Visitación que es también María de la Evangelización” …
At the end of her words, we prayed together the prayer to the Holy Spirit asking the light and help so that we could talk, be in silence, think, share ...
DSC03177
In those first sessions Maria Inez was President, Auxilio Vicente as Moderator and Ana Baeza, as secretary.

And on Tuesday, the 30th, we had the Eucharist with the community, and we began with the sharing of the fruits of our prayer, something that helped every one to stay in the atmosphere of discernment.

In the morning, the assembly elected people for the respective offices.

Back in communication to share the last days of the CG XVII.
On Saturday night there was another evening stroll and Sunday were some in the Angelus and the Pope gave us these thoughts we share.

On Wednesday we met again at 9:30 AM  in the chapter hall. It was moderated by Clara while the Liturgy Team of the invited us to  sing "Our Lady of the Way" .  After this Maria Inez proposed closing of the CGXVII will be May 30, which every one voted unanimously .

1.  Calls from what we are today ...

We ended the day with a prayer based on a video that contains moments of our experience and the song "Let's walk." We want the road to remain open and new paths and will cross it together with all the others in our family. Finally, before leaving the room, Enaceyla, liturgy group of the next day  introduced us to the next morning’s day of recollection which is making a contemplative memory of what we all went through during this CGXVII.
