An Evening With Jesus

How good it is to give thanks to you, O Lord, to sing in your honor O Most High God, to proclaim your constant love every morning, and your faithfulness every night. With the music of stringed instruments and with melody on the harp, Your mighty deeds, O Lord, make me glad, because of what you have done, I sing for joy.                                                                                                     Psalm 92: 1-4

Last July 16-17, 2022, the youth of Zone 2, Brgy. Ulaliman, El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, including two sisters had our overnight encounter with the Hijas de Jesus sisters. Our group started last October 2021, and we were accompanied by Sr. Felie Acelo, F.I.

After Sr. Felie informed us that we would have an overnight encounter, she asked us to plan for the said activity. While planning, we were not sure if we could fulfill the task because it was our first time.

Our session started with a rosary, which was the most important part of the encounter. The rosary helps us widen our knowledge about God and the Church. With the help of Sr. Felie, we learned the correct way of praying it.

Sr. Delia Pedroso, F.I.  shared her vocation story and we learned from her sharing that no matter how big the task and whatever responsibility is given to us, we have to entrust it to the Lord because He will be the one Who gives us the grace to fulfill it. She also quoted her favorite Bible verse and a homily of Bishop Villegas, which speaks about the magic words, Please, Thank you, and Sorry. If we practice saying these words, our life would be better, and it wouldl also make us good people.

After the talk of Sr. Delia, we also had our group sharing. In our discussion, we realized that many of us don’t know how to say the mentioned magic words, especially to our parents and family members. Saying them challenged us to start and practice saying them in our daily life which could change our lives and the lives of others  lives as well.

The night was also filled with our fun and laughter as Sr. Crystal Bermejo, F.I. led us in different games. From the games, we discovered that our relationship was strengthened, and our companions, who used to be shy and timid were freed from their timidity. Our friendship became stronger as we shared the joy in the games. We also watched a movie entitled “The Shack”, which allowed us to know a little more about the Holy Trinity.

In the early morning of July 17, we had an adoration at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel of the Divine Mercy Shrine, where we experienced being with Jesus in silence even for a short time. To end our session, we had our thanksgiving morning prayer under the statue of the Divine Mercy. We went home with joy in our hearts as we bring in us the challenge to always say the Magic Words.
