Time is a gift, and everything that happens at a particular time is a blessing.  Truly, CIC has been blessed from the time it was founded, the time which was considered as sowing the seed of the Hijas de Jesus mission to the present to affect the life of the people in Pototan and the nearby municipalities.

It was 90 years ago when the Pototanons were fated to be the recipients of strengthening their faith by the arrival of the six pioneer sisters from Spain. They started from nothing and God directed their journey in answer to St. Candida’s desire to go to the ends of the world in search of souls.

God’s actions are really marvelous that despite all the difficulties and challenges, the first mission in the Philippines flourished, and spread throughout and across the regions in the country with nothing to hinder the way. Reaching 90 years of fruitful existence and continuously forming young people with integral Christian formation is both an honor and a blessing that anybody can simply look up high to praise God and thank Him for the gift of St. Candida to the world and to His people.

As CIC celebrates the 90th Foundation Anniversary, CICnians joyfully and actively participated with great jubilation from here and abroad coming home with banners of success and fulfillment and with much gratitude to both their beloved alma mater and their mentors.

6.youthenc 7.youthenc90th This jubilant celebration started with a Youth Camp on July 8-9, followed by a virtual Recollection of alumni facilitated by Sr. Ma. Leoly Quitorio, F.I. on July 9.

The opening of the exhibits on July 13 was graced by the presence of Sr. Emelinda C. Falsis, F.I., the Provincial Superior of Indico-Pacific, and Sisters from different houses/communities, Alumni, Parents, and friends. The poor had always a special place in the heart of the Foundress so they were surely part of the celebration- the street sweepers, the tricycle/trisicad drivers with simple snacks.

The celebration culminated on July 16 with the procession of the picture of St. Candida in a frame and making the presence of the six pioneer sisters by the young alumnae wearing exactly the habit of the sisters then.  The float in the mobile procession was truly a beauty to behold.  Mother Candida was the woman of the day, hence, her presence in our life was never weakened

This commemoration of the nine decades of her presence in the Philippines specifically in the locality of Pototan was made special through a ceremonial enthronement of her relic and image in the church, to present to the general public that this chosen beloved of Father is not only an important figure among the Hijas de Jesus but more importantly a servant of God who could bring all souls close to Him.

The day was more touching having the Most Reverend Archbishop Jose Romeo O. Lazo, D.D. as the main celebrant in the Eucharistic celebration concelebrated by the three alumni priests, namely:  Msgr.  Maurillo Silva, Fr. Julius Almeria, and Fr.  John Michael Casidsid, the parish priest, Msgr. Rolando Haguisan and his assistant parish priest, Fr. Eldefonso Cachuela, Jr and Msgr. Ely Rafael Fuentes, the Rector of St. Joseph Parochial School in Pototan.

After the Mass in the parish, everybody then proceeded to the CIC-covered gym for the sumptuous lunch alongside the re-enactment presentation and the message of gratitude from Sr. Emelinda C. Falsis, F.I.,  Provincial Superior, who articulated her gratefulness to God, to all the alumni, the stakeholders, and the benefactors from the depth of her.

The whole morning was filled with joy and excitement in the heart of everyone especially the alumni who were also the jubilarians in this foundation anniversary. As Mother Foundress would say: “Blessed be God for the CIC’s 90 Years of Journeying together in Mission with Faith and Gratitude.
