SMAD Principal Wins CEM School Leadership Excellence Awards


One of the national winners of the 2017 Center of Educational Measurement (CEM) - School Leadership Excellence (SLEx) Awards was Dr. Rodilla Tumanda, Principal of Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD), Davao City for Mindanao category.


The 2017 CEM School Leadership Excellence (SLEx) Awards was a national search for school principals who exhibited exemplary contributions in leading their respective institutions, improving instruction, developing teachers, leading research, and engaging the community. It was launched by the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM), the leading provider of testing services for the evaluation and assessment needs of both private and public sectors of education in the Philippines. The Final Board of Judges who conducted a panel interview of the finalists were Fr. Roderick Salazar, SVD, Chairman of CEM Board of Trustees,  Dr. Nilo S. Rosas, President of New Era University and former Dep.Ed. NCR Director, Dr. Grace Dalisay of UP Diliman, and Mrs. Rhodora Ferrer of PEAC.






The awarding was held at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Ortigas Centre, Mandaluyong City on September 8, 2017 during the 39th Anniversary of CEM. It was announced by Fr. Roderick C.  Salazar Jr., SVD, the Chairman of the Final Board of Judges. Senator Francis Escudero, who graced the occasion with his presence, gave the awards.


Dr. Rodilla Tumanda was escorted by Sr. Patricia Anna T. Aragon, F.I., RCA of SMAD, who also received two (2) plaques of recognition for the school. In her acceptance speech, Dr. Tumanda expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty Father, the source of everything, and to the Hijas de Jesus Congregation, especially to the F.I. sisters who formed and helped her to become an effective school leader. For her, leading the school as a Catholic school leader is a mission and her way of participating in the evangelizing mission of the Church.



The award was truly a blessing for it was given during the Feast of the Nativity of Mary.
