Santacruzan 2018 @ Joso

On the cloudy Sunday morning of the 13th of May, 2018, more than 450 Filipinos with their families and foreign friends gathered at Joso Catholic Church for its yearly Santacruzan. This year’s theme was “Tawag Ng Fatima:13 de Mayo” to commemorate the centennial anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima.

F. Rusni, CC.SS celebrated the mass at 10:30 in the morning. Before the mass, a 5-minute tableau on the story of Fatima was done by chosen Filipino children acting as Jacinta, Lucia , Francisco and Our Lady of Fatima that set the Marian mood of the day. After mass, a grand Santa Cruzan procession followed with 25 “sagalas”, a “Reyna Elena” and a lovely image of Our Lady of Fatima. Filipinos from Toride, Tsukuba,Shimodate, Joso,Mito, Oyama ,Maebashi, Ota, Koga, with their Brazilian and Sri-Lankan friends happily processed towards the church grounds to the song of “Dios Te Salve Maria”. The “sagalas” were ushered to their designated tents.

At 1:00 pm , a modern dance and an interpretative Marian dance by Tsukuba trainees and Choir members droved the rain shower away to the delight of everyone! Then the living rosary started as 59 adults and children from volunteer participants were given fresh roses to slowly form a big rosary figure while the Hail Mary’s were being said. A tableau was performed by Tsukuba Filipinos for each joyful mystery announced before every decade. Then a living Litany of Mary followed joined by the “sagalas” bearing a title or virtue of our Lady. on their sashes. After this, the lovely flower girls, “sagalas” and Reyna Elena offered flowers to Our Lady ..Then it rained and everyone sought shelter to their assigned tents. The program continued despite the rain. Sr, Marianita,FI commented on the theme and said that Our Lady of Fatima calls everyone to do C-A-R-E. (C-confession ,A-adoration, R-rosary everyday and E–eucharist). Mary

wants us to offer sacrifices for conversion of sinners and make the 5-Saturday devotion to Her Immaculate Heart. Then a Filipino from Mito gave a heart-warming song number. The program ended happily with the raffle draw.

Thank you, Our Lady of Fatima, for giving us another “Miracle of the Sun, ”--not letting the rain spoil the joy of our 2018 Santa Cruzan! Thank you, too,to all our sponsors and friends who gave their all- out support for this day!
