July 23, 2019 marks a very significant event. Saint Joseph School-Hijas de Jesus joins the Red Cross Youth Guimaras and Department of Health on their advocacy on saving lives.

In celebration of the National Disaster Resilience and Blood Month, students were gathered in the morning at the gymnasium for the symposium conducted by Ms. Jonaidah Balquin, Red Cross Representative, with the theme: “Kahandaan sa Sakuna at Peligro para sa Pagbabago”. She gave us a series of talks, brainstorming and activities in line with this advocacy. The students learned different survival tips and were encouraged to be alert and prepared before, during and after a disaster.

Dra. May Ann Sta. Lucia, Guimaras Provincial Program Coordinator, Department of Health, her staff and other members of the Red Cross Youth Guimaras, were also present and helped us understand the value of life by taking good care of it.

In the afternoon, the students formed their respective lines from Grade 7 to Senior High School a blood drop shape while wearing red t-shirts over our heads to show that we, as a family of St. Candida, have the heart to help in saving lives. Indeed, Josephians are very blessed to be chosen by the Department of Health and Red Cross Youth Guimaras in this important endeavor and be equipped with the knowledge needed to prepare in our daily encounter with whatever disaster that may come along our way.
