Part 3: On Faith

Let us consider faith in all its richness, making reference to the experience of two persons: Abraham and Mary. Let us listen to what Holy Scripture says: Gen 12,1:12; Lk 1:26-38

Faith is, first of all, a privileged encounter between God and the person who opens his/her heart to Him; it is an encounter between God and the community of believers. In this encounter God speaks and we listen, we speak and God listens; God gives Himself to us and we give ourselves to Him. God told Abraham …. The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a virgin … In Holy Scripture we notice the concreteness of these encounters.

For us Christians, our encounter with God, takes place in the Risen Lord. This encounter must become a profound experience of life through which we are conquered more and more by Christ and by his love. We become sons and daughters of God in the Son. We become witnesses of Christ and He becomes an experience of life for us.

This experience is made up of three elements:
- The conviction that Jesus is not only a great person of the past. He is alive here and now. This is the great reality proclaimed by Saint Paul with energy: 1 Cor 15:12-22
- The conviction that the presence of Christ is not a passive presence; it is really dynamic. Christ continues proclaiming the Word of Life and He continues acting for our salvation and for the salvation of the world: Rm 8:31-39
- Our hospitality before God to welcome Jesus and his saving action at the level of the mind, of the heart and also at the level of the guts: Phil 2,5-11
