FRIENDS

2. FRIENDS

"AFTER THIS, THE LORD JESUS APPOINTED SEVENTY-TWO DISCIPLES, AND SENT THEM, TWO BY TWO, AHEAD OF HIM, TO EVERY TOWN AND PLACE, WHERE HE HIMSELF WAS TO GO." (Lk.10:1-9)
Feast of St. Luke, Evangelist

Ever been in a difficult situation where the people you relied to left or deserted you? Or have you encountered people who made difficult or worst what you have been through?

Paul, in his missionary journey, experienced those things. He was deserted and made his mission more difficult. But there was someone who helped him.

If there is what they call "Partners in Crime," there is also what we call "Partners in Christ!"

Paul and Luke were partners in the proclamation of the Gospel especially when he needed his help, his presence.

Paul, in his second letter to Timothy (4:10-17b), mentioned about Luke. He was the only one with him on his missionary journeys when others deserted him, like Demas who was enamoured of the present world.

God will send someone in our difficult or worst situations. A person or people who will remind us to keep moving and to keep persevering and to never waver in our faith. Someone or somebody who will be instrumental in deepening our trust in the Lord Jesus.

It was for that practical reason why Jesus sent the seventy-two disciples on their mission, two by two in order to have a partner in Christ.

God, indeed, will not leave us alone or abandoned. He will manifest His presence. Sometimes, God reveals himself among the people we know or even we do not know or to a person we call friend. Psalm 145 reminds us, "Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendour of your Kingdom."

You'll never be alone.

God will send FRIENDS.

Happy Feast Day, St. Luke!
