A Joyful Celebration of the 114th Death Anniversary of St. Cándida María de Jesús

An atmosphere of fiesta filled the house today, even as the typhoon raged outside! With joyful hearts, the Hijas de Jesús in Metro Manila, together with friends and collaborators, gathered at the Manresa Retreat House Chapel to commemorate the 114th anniversary of the Death of St. Cándida María de Jesús, our Foundress.

The Mass began with a brief introduction that recalled the significance of this day, followed by the joyful singing of the Entrance Song. Two Postulants, Fransiska and Kristiani, sang the Responsorial Psalm beautifully, helping the assembly enter more deeply into the celebration.

The homily given by Fr. Arden Dacuma, O.P., the celebrant, offered a rich reflection on the readings of this 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time, drawing a meaningful connection between the Word of God and Mother Cándida’s life—particularly her profound faith, her complete trust in God, and her intimate relationship with Him. Her life continues to remind us what it means to live with a heart wholly available to God.

A special moment of the celebration was the Renewal of Vows of Sr. Mary Mae, which became a beautiful expression of continued commitment to the Lord in the spirit of Mother Cándida. The joyful singing of Clara Estrella and the beloved Hymn of Mother Cándida further enlivened the celebration.

All the Hijas de Jesús Sisters from Metro Manila, together with friends and collaborators, gathered for this special occasion. The celebration continued beyond the Eucharistic table as everyone shared a joyful breakfast—a simple but meaningful expression of fraternity, gratitude, and the joy of belonging to the family of Mother Cándida.

As we remember the woman who lived and died “for God alone,” we give thanks for the gift of her life and mission, and we ask that her faith, courage, and love may continue to inspire us today.

Happy, happy Feast to all Hijas de Sisters and the Family of Mother Candida!
