114 Years After Mother Candida’s Journey to the Father

On August 9, 1912, Mother Cándida María de Jesús completed her earthly journey and entered the embrace of the Father. One hundred and fourteen years later, we remember the day of her death as well as the life she offered entirely to God—a life of faith, courage, simplicity, and love.

Her final days reveal something of the heart of the woman who founded the Hijas de Jesús. As her earthly journey drew to its close, her words became a precious witness: “I am for God alone.” These words express the deepest desire that guided her life. Everything she was, everything she did, and everything she loved found its meaning in God.

She taught us to do everything for God, to remain faithful even when the road is difficult, and to understand that “without the cross we go nowhere.”

And even as she prepared to leave this world, her heart remained with her daughters. “I will keep all of you in my heart.” In these words, we glimpse the tenderness of a Mother whose love did not end with death. Her spiritual motherhood continues to accompany the Hijas de Jesús and all those who find in her life a path toward God.

Her final words also speak to us with remarkable simplicity and strength: “Be brave.” And when everything seemed to be coming to an end, there was still peace: Tranquilísimamente tranquila. Her life teaches us that Christian courage is the quiet confidence of one who knows in Whom she has placed her trust.

Today, as we commemorate the 114th anniversary of her death, we remember, and we receive in our hearts what she left behind.

Mother Cándida reminds us that the end is not the end, but a beginning—a life transformed in God and a mission that continues through generations.

Her words remain an invitation for us today:

To be for God alone.
To do everything for God.
To embrace the cross with faith.
To keep one another in our hearts.
To be brave.
And to remain tranquilly confident in God’s love.

One hundred and fourteen years after her return to the Father, Mother Cándida continues to walk with us—as the Foundress we remember, and as a mother whose life still points us toward the One whom she loved above all.

Mother Cándida María de Jesús, pray for us and continue to teach us to live entirely for God.
