I believe that there are three paths that the Missionary Church must cover in order to be Mother and Teacher in the spirit of Pope Francis:

  • Optimism based on faith. We are called to a total rejection of pessimism and to embrace an optimistic view of life. This view is not naïve, and for the followers of Christ, is identified with the virtue of hope which is of vital importance. During one of his daily homilies in Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis said: “Hope is a present, it’s a gift from the Holy Spirit and that is why Paul says; ‘Never disappoint yourself’ – Hope never lets you down. Why? Because it’s a gift from the Holy Spirit.”
  • Reasons for believing. In his Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, n. 15, Pope Francis spells out in clear words the essence of teaching through witness by the followers of Christ: “They should appear as people who wish to share their joy, who point to a horizon of beauty and who invite others to a delicious banquet…. The Church grows, but ‘by attraction’.” The attraction that we generate when we are nourished by the Word of God, the Eucharist, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and all the means given us by God’s generosity
  • The beauty of being different. Our call is to stand out in society for our ‘being Christians’ with courage and enthusiasm, convinced that faith is shared (is taught) in a very unique manner through the Gospel’s ‘difference’ present in Christ’s followers.

We ask Mary to intercede for us that like her, we may lead people to Christ, the Savior.
