The emerging challenge of COVID-19 coronavirus has motivated Shotoku to respond with the kind of ingenuity you would expect from highly creative minds.

The school launched virtual classroom two weeks ago. This serves as scaffolding for students, encouraging them to continue learning and helping them to participate equally and gain confidence in a safe virtual environment. This provides a unique and more positive approach to the teaching mission, which is adapting to the signs of the times. The use of technology gives us hope for the future of Shotoku.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear…”(Psalm 46:1-2)

Furthermore, Shotoku has also been very creative in helping and responding to the simple needs of the community by providing them with personal handcrafted washable fabric face masks. These enclosed with an acrostic positive meaning of COVID 19. In this way, Shotoku serves as a channel of hope and optimism to people in the midst of crisis.

The message goes like this: “We do not have the power to eradicate the virus, but we do have the power to change our perception and meaning of the word... Let us put a more positive meaning to the word COVID 19.This is the mission of Shotoku Gakuin. We hope that your loved ones and colleagues will get through this difficult time. Please take care of yourselvesBe positive, have fun, and smile. We are confident that we can overcome this difficult time together.”
