Pastoral Ministers Re-ignited, Re-tooled

The Formation Committee of the F.I. Team on Educative action rolled out its first of two, series of Talks in response to the felt needs of the Pastoral Ministers of the different F. I. Apostolic Centers in the Philippines. 

 The session on Retooling of Pastoral Ministers which was held via Zoom meeting took place on July 3, 2021 with Sr. Joji Silorio, F.I. as the main speaker. This was attended by 27 participants from the different F.I. apostolic centers.

 The Retooling session has the theme, “Rekindling the Fire for Pastoral Ministry” with the following objectives:

1. to be in touch with the person of the minister,

2. to revisit the role of Pastoral Ministry in the F.I. Educative Action, and to

3. to review the dynamics of a Pastoral Ministry Program.

    The session started with a gratitude activity where the participants were given the time to reflect on the things, persons, events in their life that they are grateful for. They then went to their respective Breakout Rooms in order to share their experiences with their group mates.

   Sr. Joji then proceeded to share the different topics of her talk which included the following: Defining Characteristics of a Catholic School, Church Documents relevant to answer the Why’s of Pastoral Ministry, What is Pastoral Ministry, Pastoral Ministry and Campus Ministry differentiated, and The Person of the Pastoral Minister.

     Part of the session was the sharing of the proposed template of the Unified F. I. Pastoral Ministry Program which was shared by Dr. Rodilla Tumanda, Principal of Stella Maris Academy of Davao. Mr. Patrick Bugay, Pastoral Minister of Manresa School, Parañaque, also presented an exemplar of a Pastoral Ministry Program. The participants were then challenged to make a Pastoral Ministry Program for those who did not have it yet, and for those who have existing programs, to revisit it, to revise some parts to make it relevant to the context of the school year 2021-2022.

    Before the session ended, the participants shared their takeaways from the session and agreeing on the date when the copy of the Pastoral Ministry program will be shared to the formation committee.

     Finally, the session ended with a prayer led by Sr. Edhen Paranga, F.I., Principal of Colegio de la Inmaculada Conception, Pototan.
