Resource speaker for the Updating for Pastoral Accompaniment Session,  Sr.  Felisa Molina, F.I.

What was intended to be a session for an Updating on Pastoral Accompaniment has turned out to be a nourishing spiritual encounter for the participants. The Holy Spirit gave us the grace to see things with the eyes of faith, and our hearts were inflamed.  This statement is one that describes the experience of the disciples whom Jesus accompanied on the Road to Emmaus, and this is also the pulse of the participants’ sharing as part of their impression after the session.

The Updating on Pastoral Accompaniment session had allowed the 116 participants to go through reflection sessions on the questions meant to walk them through the Why’s and How’s of pastoral accompaniment. The Formation committee of the Team on Educative Action (TEA) aimed to provide an opportunity through the session for the participants who are part of the pastoral accompaniment team of every F.I apostolic center in the Philippines for SY 2021-2022, to broaden their knowledge and understanding on the concepts and rudiments of pastoral accompaniment.

Some of the insights /impressions shared by the participants were:

“I cannot fathom the joy I feel right now. It’s been a long time since I joined the community, and for many years, the zest has settled and had not been awakened. But this session has brought a stirring within me, I know that with the grace of God, I will be able to accompany the children entrusted to my care.”

“My heart is so full. I am very grateful for today.  To accompany someone is not easy.  It needs patience and commitment.  I am happy that the congregation, the sisters, the people school in our school gave me the support. This session is like an accompaniment to spiritual companions.”

‘I am assured of the loving presence of God. “

“Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be accompanied, and also for giving me a chance to accompany.  I feel glad to be of service to Him.”

“It’s good to remove our sandals before we enter into the sacred space of the person we accompanied.”

The song, “We are Companions in the Journey” that clinched the session truly summed up the inspiration that filled the hearts of those present. As Jesus’ present and presence filled the hearts of the disciples on the Road to Emmaus and moved them to tell everyone how He opened their eyes to the truth about God, so the encounter has inspired everyone to be like Jesus, the companion in this journey of faith, a gift of self to a fellow seeker.

The session ended with words of thanks given by Mrs. Fatima Amor Monteon of Stella Maris Academy of Davao, and a closing prayer led by Ms. Angelica Pulgan of Colegio de la Inmaculada Conception, Pototan.
