SJS @ 50: Moving on with Gratitude for God’s Greater Glory

"It is my joy to see young boys and girls receive Christian education.”
This is one of the famous sayings of St. Candida Maria de Jesus, the Foundress of the Hijas de Jesus Congregation. On June 22, 1970, the Congregation founded St. Joseph School – Hijas de Jesus, Inc. in the Island of Guimaras.

Last June 22, 2019, the whole SJS community: students, faculty and staff, sisters, as well as alumni and parents, have come together in the school’s gymnasium for a Eucharist Celebration and the Opening Ceremony of its one –year long Golden Anniversary celebration with the theme: SJS @ 50: “Moving on with Gratitude for God’s Greater Glory.”

For years, the first ever Catholic school here in the province of Guimaras, has been sowing seeds of the Gospel values to the students of St. Joseph School to help them become good Christians and persons for others

The whole community awaited joyfully for the coming of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Jaro, His Excellency, Jose Romeo Lazo, D.D., who is the main celebrant of the mass. The eagerness to see him made everyone to wave their flags as the drummers beat their drums for excitement.

After the mass, a short program followed where Sr. Dina Galaura, FI, SJS Principal, officially opened the celebration of the 50th Foundation Celebration of the school. After which was a simple agape shared by all.

In the afternoon, we had the “Pamukaw” Caravan in all parts of Guimaras. The purpose of this is to reach out and to open the hearts of our beloved alumni, parents and students about the said event.

The day ended with our hearts filled with gratitude and joy as recognized the constant presence and guidance of the Lord for the past 50 years of St. Joseph School. We feel the presence and loving glance of Mother Foundress, as well as the guiding hand of Mother Mary. We are looking forward to a whole year’s joyful celebration
