Empowered and United Youth from across Regions share growth, service and fraternity
FEB 01

As part of their commitment from the National Youth Assembly (NYA) 2024 to inspire meaningful action, the Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD) NYA delegates organized the first-ever Regional Youth Encounter (RYE) for Davao-Cebu-El Salvador in collaboration with the Provincial Youth Ministry Team from January 10-13, 2025.
Guided by the NYA 2024 commitment statement, “We Are God’s Children, The Face of Hope, Bearers of His Love, Champions of Fraternity, and Builders of a Caring World, Walking Together with Christ in Our Hearts,” the RYE gathered 20 delegates from SMAD, 15 from Sacred Heart School (SHS) Cebu, and 14 beneficiaries from El Salvador. Held at the Hijas de Jesús Apostolic Center in El Salvador, it fostered faith, well-being, and community through prayer, reflection, and service.
An experience of Immersion and Service
On January 11, delegates packed goods and engaged in an immersion experience at the El Salvador dumpsite, led by Sr. Felie “Lhai” Acelo, F.I. They facilitated games, distributed essential items, and interacted with local families, bringing joy and solidarity. Parents expressed gratitude for the shared laughter and deeper connections formed.
Action and Reflection
The second day focused on tree planting, cleanup, and painting, strengthening teamwork and environmental stewardship. Delegates reflected on newfound friendships and the joy of service, living the spirit of Laudato Si. One SMAD delegate shared, “Even in small tasks like sweeping, I found joy in working with others and forming new bonds.”
Lasting Impact
The encounter deepened faith and fraternity, echoing St. Candida Maria de Jesus’ mission: “It is my joy to see young children come to my school to receive Christian education.” As the camp ended, the delegates carried forward the call to spread kindness and hope, making a lasting impact in their communities.
