Celebrating Good Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Ruteng, Flores Island Indonesia

May 11, 2025, marked two significant days: Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. These days provide a powerful opportunity to reflect on the importance of answering God’s call and serving others. The celebration extended beyond the Church walls. The community first attended the Holy Eucharist at St Klaus, Kuwu, where the sisters, 3 postulants, and two girls on a “Come and see program sang in the Choir. After the mass, Kurnia and Christiani, our two postulants, introduced the Hijas de Jesus Congregation to the Grade 10 and 11 girls at St Klaus..Sr Marie and one aspirant proceeded to Ruteng Cathedral, our parish, to join other congregations to share about their religious Congregation. Sr Emerencia, with other sisters from different congregations, went to a village for Vocation promotion and other activities like catechesis and visits to some families there. In the afternoon, Sr Marie, one postulant, and two girls on a “CaSP”  visited a mother in a nearby hospital to offer care and comfort.

This dedication highlights the multifaceted nature of service for the sisters. Teaching catechesis nurtures faith in the younger generation and ensures the continuity of religious practice. Promoting vocations is crucial for the future of religious communities, guaranteeing a continued presence of those dedicated to serving God and humanity.

The sisters’ work serves as a powerful example of Faith in Action. Their commitment to spreading the Word about Vocations, teaching, and providing compassionate care demonstrates the tangible impact of answering God’s Call. These efforts inspire us all to consider how we can contribute to our community and live out our vocations, whatever they may be.

The combined celebration of Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations reminded us of the importance of service, faith, and the ongoing need for individuals to answer God’s call to service.
