Bringing the Christmas Spirit to Indonesia: A Heartwarming BEC Christmas Party
DEC 20
For the first time, the children of our Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) Sunday school experienced the joy and warmth of a traditional Filipino Christmas party, right here in Indonesia! In a country where Christmas celebrations aren't as widely observed, our community came together to share the spirit of the season and create unforgettable memories for the kids and their families.
The air was filled with excitement as the children arrived, their eyes wide with wonder at the festive decorations. From twinkling lights to colorful ornaments, we transformed our gathering place into a Christmas wonderland. The party began with a Tableau based on the Gospel of St. Luke, Chapter 1: 26-38, followed by vibrant songs and dances from the children, accompanied by laughter and simple food offered by the BEC neighbors. The children's faces lit up as they participated in songs and dances as well as in traditional Filipino Christmas games. Parents joined in the games, showcasing their energy and enthusiasm.
But the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the sharing of simple gifts (Candies and little things) which the Putri Putri Yesus community shared. Each child received a special present, carefully chosen to bring a smile to their face. It was a heartwarming sight to witness their gratitude and joy, a true testament to the spirit of giving that defines Christmas.
This Christmas party was more than just a celebration; it was an opportunity to share our Filipino culture and traditions with our Indonesian friends. The community sang “Ang Pasko ay Sumapit.” It was a reminder that the spirit of Christmas knows no boundaries and that love, joy, and generosity can be shared with everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success. From the dedicated who lent their chairs, the BEC leader who volunteered to put up the “trapal” since it was raining every afternoon. To our postulants and Junior sisters who organized the program and decorations, it was such a beautiful Christmas experience for them. We thank our neighbors who offered snacks to our children and parents, and all our generous donors. All their support made this Christmas program a reality.
As we look forward to the future, we hope to continue sharing the spirit of Christmas with our community in Indonesia, creating more opportunities for cultural exchange and spreading joy to those around us.
