On the World Day of Consecrated Life (February 2), the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life released a message to consecrated women and men worldwide. Set in today’s reality of armed conflicts, social fragility, forced migration, and trials of faith, the message highlights consecrated life as a steady, compassionate presence among the most vulnerable. In his Message for the 60th World Communications Day, Pope Leo powerfully recalls the sacred value of the human face and voice—unique signs of personal identity and authentic places of encounter. Created in the image of God, we are called to safeguard this deeply relational dimension of communication, which today is being tested by the rapid development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The Pope urges us not to renounce our critical and creative thinking, warning of the risks posed by algorithm-driven communication that fosters superficiality, polarization, and dependency. The challenge, he emphasizes, is not technological but anthropological: it is about preserving the humanity of communication and preventing simulated relationships and realities from replacing genuine encounters between persons.
