Day 3 - F.I. Youth in Action, Stewards of God’s Creation

NYA Day 3 NYA 2026

The third day of the F.I. National Youth Assembly (NYA) in Davao proved to be the most immersive and unforgettable chapter of the event yet. Moving beyond the four walls of Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD), the delegates spent the day rolling up their sleeves and engaging directly with the environment, the local government, and the rich culture of Mindanao.

The day began before dawn as the delegates, fueled by excitement despite the early hour, traveled by bus to a coastal planting site. In a hands-on effort to support local ecosystems, each student planted mangrove seedlings. However, the activity quickly turned into a lesson on environmental reality when the delegates noticed the sheer volume of waste—ranging from plastic bottles to discarded electronics - scattered across the area.

Without hesitation, the F.I. youth, being stewards of God’s creations, shifted into a Coastal Clean-up drive. Under the morning sun, they filled sacks with various trash, once someone’s treasure. Despite the heat, the delegates found deep satisfaction in leaving the shore safer and cleaner than they found it.

Following a well-deserved lunch break at SM City Davao, the delegates transitioned from the field to the city center. A highlight of the afternoon was their visit to the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Dabaw. The delegates were warmly received by local officials, who shared inspiring insights into the city’s environmental laws and the vital role of the youth in maintaining a healthy society. It was a moment of empowerment, reinforcing that their voices as young citizens truly matter. The visit awakened the delegate’s ardent courage and the leader within each of them.

After a quiet moment of prayer and reflection at the San Pedro Cathedral, the group visited Kadayawan Village, exploring Davao’s heritage and the diversity of its people. Walking through traditional houses and listening to stories of ancestral lifestyles, the delegates gained a profound appreciation for the diversity that defines the Filipino spirit.

The delegates eventually returned to their host school, SMAD, with hearts full of meaningful experiences and encounters. The day’s activities—tiring and muddy as they were—concluded with a realization: the National Youth Assembly is not just a series of events, but a journey of growth.

The day ended with a Praise Fest, singing out loud, songs, and praises to the Lord — the Creator of us all.

Through service and unity, these young leaders learned that caring for God’s creation and respecting culture are the foundations of true leadership. Day 3 in Davao was more than just a tour; it was a life-changing experience they will carry in their hearts forever.
